The Legend of Siti Rabiah - A Folklore From Tungkal Ulu

Long time ago, in Tungkal Ulu, there lived a beautiful girl. She had long and black hair. She was named Siti Rabiah. Siti was a cheerful girl and very happy to play. However, she was suffered because her father and mother always turtored her whenever she made a mistake.

One day, Siti Rabiah got bored to stay at home. She really wanted to play with her friends. But she knew her mother would be very angry if knew that. After a while, she decided to go out and played with her friends.

"Hi, I'm Siti Rabiah. I'm 16 years old. I really like playing Congklak. Let's play with me! "

"Shhh... Promise me that you won’t tell my mom. She will mad at me"

Suddenly, Siti’s mother found out that she played with  her friends.

“Sitiii! Come here!”

"Oh, God. It’s my mom”

“Yes mom. I’m coming”

Every day ,Siti did housechores. She cooked, washed clothes, and swept the house. Siti felt very bored of doing these jobs again. Siti went out of the house to play with her friends.

"One two three. Have you done it yet? Siti shouted while playing hide and seek.

Then Siti walked here and there to find her friends.

"Inang, I’ve found you!"

"Come on, just give up, Atun. You bad in hiding ”

She did not take long time to find all of her friends. All of her friends had been found by Siti. Siti Rabiah was indeed very sharp in finding her friends' hiding places.

When she was playing, Siti's father who had just returned from the sea passed by and saw Siti play with her friends.

"What are you doing here?" Asked Siti's father with an angry face.

Siti did not answer him. Her friends also looked scared.

"Go home, now!”

“No! I want to play, just like my friends” Siti replied.

“No! Go home now!” 

“I wish never have a father like you!”

Her father’s palm landed on Siti Rabiah's cheek. Siti cried and was dragged home by her father. When she got home, Siti was nagged. Siti’s friends cried  so loud because they felt pity to see Siti in a such great pain. And then, they came to Siti’s house and tried to play with Siti again. However, Siti’s father came to them.

“How dare you come to my house. Siti will never play with you anymore!” Said Siti’s father.

The next day, Siti looked her friends playing by the window and called them

 “Atun! Inang! Can you come here and play with me?”

“No, Siti! If we play with you, your father will be very angry with us, we are scared of your father”

Siti was very depressed to hear that. She stood by the window daydreaming. Siti looked at the beach in front of her house with a blank stare. Then the devil came and possessed Siti very easily.

"This girl looks very sad. I'd better just enter her body. "Said the devil happily.

Siti was unconscious. Her body was controlled by the devil. Siti walked according to the orders of the devil. Her feet stepped towards the sea. When she arrived in the middle of the sea, Siti disappeared. Siti’s friends saw Siti went to the beach by herself. Then, they went to Siti’s house.

“Uncle!” Said Atun.

“How dare you come again, I’ve already told you, right?

“But, we saw Siti go to the beach, and then she disappeared!”

“Are you serious?” 

Siti's father looked to their house, Siti was not there. Siti Rabiah’s parents regretted and continued to look for her daughter, but Siti Rabiah couldn't be found anymore.
